"

I am a mother of three girls, ages 2, 6, and 8. Two of them are Sandy Hook School students – one in first grade, one in third grade. I would like to share with you our experience with Dec 14th and my feelings on gun control.

My third grader has gone thru some deep grief over the loss of her siblings’ friends. She was devastated by the loss of the teachers, especially her principal, Dawn Hocksprung, whom we all loved. She is angry that this has happened, that lives were lost so tragically and that she can no longer go to her school. When she was evacuated that day to the fire house, she did not know if her little sister had survived. She struggles with the concept that there is evil in the world, that something this horrific could happen to this town, to her, to her sisters, to her friends. She is 8.

In addition to the tragic loss of her playmates, friends, and teachers, my first grader suffers from PTSD. She was in the first room by the entrance to the school. Her teacher was able to gather the children into the tiny bathroom inside the classroom. There she stood, with 14 of her classmates and her teacher, all of them crying. You see, she heard what was happening on the other side of the wall. She heard everything. Shooting. Screaming. Pleading. She was sure she was going to die that day and did not want to die for Christmas. Imagine what this must have been like.

With PTSD comes fear – all kinds of fear. Each time she hears a loud or unfamiliar noise, she experiences the fear she had in that bathroom. She is not alone. All of her classmates have PTSD. She struggles nightly with nightmares, difficulty falling asleep, and being afraid to go anywhere in her own home. At school she becomes withdrawn, crying daily, covering her ears when it gets too loud and waiting for this to happen again. She is 6.

Imagine being this age and living like this. My children face their fears every day by getting on the bus and going to school. Would you be able to do the same? How would you feel if these were your children?

Although we are getting help and trying to heal, this will affect us for the rest of our lives. We are thankful that by the grace of god, our children came home to us on Dec. 14. As a family and a community, we are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of so many innocent children and beloved teachers.

We are also furious.

Furious that 26 families must suffer with grief so deep and so wide that it is unimaginable.

Furious that the innocence and safety of my children’s lives has been taken.

Furious that someone had access to the type of weapon used in this massacre.

Furious that this type of weapon is even legal.

Furious that gun makers make ammunition with such high rounds and our government does nothing to stop them.

Furious that the ban on assault weapons was carelessly left to expire.

Furious that lawmakers let the gun lobbyists have so much control.

Furious that somehow, someone’s right to own a gun is more important than my children’s rights to life.

Furious that common sense has gone out the window.

Furious that lawmakers are too scared to take a stand.

The “what if’s” never stop going through my mind. What if this weapon were still banned? What if there weren’t high capacity rounds? What if the shooter had different bullets? I think the carnage would have been a lot less. Yes, there would have been losses. But there would have been time. Time to react and possibly make a difference.

Those children and teachers had NO CHANCE. They did not just get shot. They got blown apart.

It’s time to stop catering to the gun owners and lobbyists and start caring about our children, our families, our teachers, our friends and our neighbors. The NRA does not care about people, they care about money.

I don’t believe that anyone, other than the military, has a right to own the type of weapon or ammo used at Sandy Hook.

The second amendment is not limitless.

Weapons like the AR15 have no place in society. This is simply common sense.

Veronique Pozner, mother of Noah Pozner, killed at Sandy Hook Elementary, gave this statement which I believe whole-heartedly:
“The equation is terrifyingly simple: Faster weapons equal more fatalities. This is not about the right to bear arms. It is about the right to bear weapons with the capacity for mass destruction.”

We are trying to move forward, but there must be change. If our lawmakers cannot make this change, then we, as a people will elect those who will.

"

Excerpt from a letter by CARRIE LENDROTH BATTAGLIA, the mother of two children who survived the Sandy Hook school massacre.

I dare the Republican members of Congress to take a meeting with her, or any other parent of the victim of gun violence.

He should be removed for his incredibly misogynist remarks against many of the female and male characters from the Marvel comics. See that article he wrote [here].

well done marvel another winner

32. Batwoman - This lesbian character was voted for almost exclusively by men. I don’t know exactly what that means.  But I’m hoping for a Marvel-DC crossover so that Tony Stark can “turn” her.  She could also have sex with Nightwing and probably still be technically considered a lesbian.

Less than 3k signatures. I don’t want this guy to be writing for any movies, let alone one I want to see.

At this point, this creep at the helm is one more reason for me not to bother with it.  (The fact that it’s not the 1969 team already makes me less favorably disposed.)

blood-bambi:

thisisthinprivilege:

Thin privilege is not having the doctor tell you that you’re going to die by the age of 30 if you don’t do something about your weight when the reason you are there is for an ear infection.

HAHA I THOUGHT THIS POST WAS A JOKE! But then I went on the page and saw that it’s a serious blog about fat people being ‘discriminated’ against. And then I laughed even more. Fucking hell, touchy fat people are HILARIOUS.

(The doctor is trying to help you because being overweight is actually a health problem. HOW IS BEING HELPED THE SAME AS BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST? ARE YOU STUPID AS WELL AS OBESE?)

Just sayin’, fat people dying early is a good thing because it balances out the amount of resources they take up whilst they’re alive.

But yeah, I look forward to the people who wrote that blog’s reactions to their inevitable heart attacks.

I’m reblogging this just so the casual followers of this blog understand that fat discrimination is incredibly serious.

The death wishes are real.

The hate is real.

Propaganda and misinformation about fat people, including the common-wisdom myth that they take up ‘more resources’ than other people (largely promulgated by a back-of-the-envelope calculation filled with wrong assumptions made by some prominent economists a couple of years ago) fuels the hate of the fucks quoted after the OP above.

That’s not to say the fucks above wouldn’t find another reason to hate fat people, or just redirect their hate elsewhere. The point is that the misinformation about fat people, fat hate, and fat discrimination create the climate for honest-to-god existential harm to happen to fat people.

A recent post was by a young person who said they were required to lose weight before being allowed to graduate from high school.

Far too many posts on this blog have documented harm done by biased doctors or other healthcare professionals.

Some have documented the death of people, directly caused by fat discrimination.

This is real.

This is real.

This is real.

Let’s pretend for a minute that thisisthinprivilege is wrong about fat people, while blood-bambi is correct. So the correct response to someone you sincerely believe to be wrong about a health issue that affects them is to laugh at them? Yeah, right! I don’t think blood-bambi even gives a shit about the health of fat people. The only reason why he even bothered to bring up “concern for your health” is to pretend that he’s not actually the mega-asshole that he is!

And this is why I facepalm hard whenever someone tries to reduce it to a matter of clothing sizes or the width of seating on public transportation.

The more I think about this article, the angrier I get.

Women of childbearing age ‘should not be allowed to take antidepressants’
Anti-depressants and antipsychotic drugs that cause problems during pregnancy should not be given to women of a child-bearing age, a leading psychiatrist has said.

Because half of pregnancies are unplanned, drugs that have serious side effects for pregnant women or their unborn children, such as antidepressants, should not be given to women who could become pregnant, Professor Louise Howard said.

She said: “If drugs are contraindicated during pregnancythen it is best that they are avoided in women of reproductive age in general – because 50pc of pregnancies are unplanned.

“That’s just life, we know women will get pregnant when they haven’t intended to, so it’s important to avoid particular drugs.”

For instance, sodium valproate, which is used as a mood stabiliser for bipolar patients, can cause fetal malformations and can lead to a child having a lower IQ, she said.

Menarche can start as early as 8 years old, and menopause can happen as late as a woman’s mid to late 50s. That is potentially fifty years. Fifty years in which this doctor feels that the medical treatment of women with REAL HEALTH ISSUES should be decided based on what’s best for a fetus that we might or might not ever conceive. And in those fifty years, we should, what, forgo treatment for physical and mental illnesses? Agree to treatments that are less effective, because the ones that work could harm a developing fetus? Because we might accidentally become pregnant and there’s nothing at all you can do about THAT, right?

I don’t take offense to the suggestion I’ve heard in the past, that women should take prenatal multivitamins even if we’re not planning on becoming pregnant, because vitamins. They’re good for you, right? Extra folic acid isn’t going to kill you, or make you crazy.

But not having access to medications that can change our lives for the better because of hypothetical fetuses that may never exist, that’s really something else entirely, and it’s incredibly offensive. Anti-psychotics! Imaginary fetuses are more important than the mental health of women who need anti-psychotics! Come on!

WHAT?!

Are we not supposed to drink alcohol, eat soft cheeses or soft serve or anything else during childbearing years either?

Because honestly, fuck hypothetical pregnancy OK?

But didn’t you know that if you have a uterus, that’s all you ARE? Just a containment unit for the uterus that might at some point be full of fetus, the most precious and sacred thing?

Guys, I’m an asexual lesbian. There’s no way in fucking hell I’m going to get pregnant unless the fucking Angel of the Lord shows up and tells me I’m going to bear the next Jesus, and if he can handle no sex he can probably do something about freaking Latuda and Cymbalta. Because anyone who tries to take those away is going to be in a world of hurt.

Fuckity fuckity fuck I cannot believe it’s a fucking WOMAN saying this. I’m fucking mildly dangerous to others when I’m not on my meds, m’okay? It’s not just for me.

@ Howard:  GTFO people’s uteri.  Kthxbai.

But without antipsychotics some people could die. Suicide is an actual danger. These are life saving drugs.

Know what could harm an unplanned developing fetus?

DYING.

General anxiety in the niiiiiiiight time!

Hey, were you trying to sleep? It’s your brain. I just wanted to remind you that whatever tiny hardly sustained comfort that you’ve managed to carve for yourself is destroyable at the tiniest pin drop and there’s nothing you can do about it!

Have fun sleeping now!

{UnWinona}: I debated whether or not to share this story.

impressioniste:

And then I debated whether or not to put it on Tumblr…but I decided it was important. Because in my own way, I can (unfortunately) point out exactly what is wrong with men when they don’t realize how hard it is to be a woman. How we do not have equal opportunities and freedoms in everyday life….

shit, now i feel bad for being a guy

isn’t that the whole point of this story? to remind guys of how awful they are?

because there were some assholes on a train

the concept that anytime somebody hits on you it’s because they’re a horrible person is a dumbass concept

at no point did she ever answer the question proposed, “what are you reading?”…if she had said calmly (as opposed to loudly and firmly) “i’m reading *blah blah title* would you please leave me to it” or something of the sort, it could’ve possibly gone better, instead of bluntly and loudly saying “LEAVE ME ALONE” as if they were groping her….and even if that didn’t work, and they still acted like pricks…why should i feel bad for what THEY did? should i apologize and accept that my life is rainbows and excellence because i have a dick?

so yeah, those teenagers were assholes, and the bicycle guy was a psychopath…sounds like your train runs through a shitty neighborhood…doesn’t mean i should loathe myself

———

No, see…

This is the one time you don’t get to make it all about you.

This is where you say, “Wow, I can’t possibly understand what you’re going through, but I’m sorry you had to experience that, and now I have a better perspective on what women face and will never do that to a woman.

Way to miss the point.

The point is that we have no fucking idea if the person we say, “No thank you,” or, “I’d like to be left alone, please,” to is going to be a guy that says, “Oh, sure. Sorry for bothering you!” and steps away kindly or the kind that gets in our faces and threatens us screams at us. And most of the time, it’s not worth it to take that risk.

We have to treat everyone like the latter because if we don’t, and we’re caught off guard, then whatever happens to us is always our fault. If we’re not nice, we’re bitches. If we’re too nice, we’re asking for whatever we get.

Women don’t owe you anything, least of all an apology. We don’t owe you the time of day, we don’t owe you a conversation, we don’t owe you an explanation.

If you read a story like that and all you can say is, “Well excuuuuuuuuuuse me for being male!” then you’re part of the fucking problem.

Top Ten Differences Between White Terrorists and Others

faineemae:

1. White terrorists are called “gunmen.” What does that even mean? A person with a gun? Wouldn’t that be, like, everyone in the US? Other terrorists are called, like, “terrorists.”

2. White terrorists are “troubled loners.” Other terrorists are always suspected of being part of a global plot, even when they are obviously troubled loners.

3. Doing a study on the danger of white terrorists at the Department of Homeland Security will get you sidelined by angry white Congressmen. Doing studies on other kinds of terrorists is a guaranteed promotion.

4. The family of a white terrorist is interviewed, weeping as they wonder where he went wrong. The families of other terrorists are almost never interviewed.

5. White terrorists are part of a “fringe.” Other terrorists are apparently mainstream.

6. White terrorists are random events, like tornadoes. Other terrorists are long-running conspiracies.

7. White terrorists are never called “white.” But other terrorists are given ethnic affiliations.

8. Nobody thinks white terrorists are typical of white people. But other terrorists are considered paragons of their societies.

9. White terrorists are alcoholics, addicts or mentally ill. Other terrorists are apparently clean-living and perfectly sane.

10. There is nothing you can do about white terrorists. Gun control won’t stop them. No policy you could make, no government program, could possibly have an impact on them. But hundreds of billions of dollars must be spent on police and on the Department of Defense, and on TSA, which must virtually strip search 60 million people a year, to deal with other terrorists.
