motorcyclecoptor:

Reason #102020 why this show was a huge letdown: This storyline was never fully explored and textually it actually seems like we’re supposed to agree that those people are oppressing themselves. Korra’s actions are never actually called out after this and her attitude toward the non-benders don’t really change.

“You’re our Avatar, too.”

Except not really. At least she never shows it because apparently everything was perfect again once Amon was defeated and the Equalists just seemingly went away and all the non-benders just stopped giving a shit about not having a member in the biggest political body in the city or people in the police department etc.

If it didn’t sound so much like this plot will just be dropped for Season 2, I wouldn’t have minded, but S2 is all about spirits and shit so yeah.

Yeah they do follow a similar line-up. The Avatar, 2 siblings, and rich daughter/bamf that defies her parent(s). Three benders and one nonbender. etc. but anyways..
Now about there being something missing from the new Team Avatar, I agree that there’s something missing, but I completely disagree that it’s mainly Asami and because she isn’t Toph 2.0 or a master bender.
Aang had an entirely different situation. Toph was necessary as Aang’s earthbending teacher and someone who forced Aang to take things head-on. Aang was known to find ways around situations or dodge and evade and Toph was someone he needed to learn from for this.
Now Korra on the other hand was already headstrong and impulsive and would already take head-on action. Korra needed to learn that just because other people aren’t like her who are nonbenders (and more feminine) doesn’t make them weak (seriously this girl is a real BAMF and she’s a nonbender which makes her extra awesome yes). Asami was supposed to provide a foil for Korra as a nonbender and also bring in some of the nonbender point of view but that was never fully explored and Korra didn’t actually learn anything in the end really.
What was really missing from this new team though was an actual strong base of friendship, in my opinion. The new Team Avatar weren’t actually friends and didn’t really treat each other like friends. They were all thrown in together and worked with one another because of the circumstances without really forming a much deeper connection as friends that would encourage them to stay together as a team and as friends after the Amon was finished and bending was restored.
In my opinion that’s what was missing but *shrug* you don’t have to agree if you don’t want. I just really don’t think Asami is the reason why anything was missing really. It’s just that we weren’t shown that they were friends and also weren’t provided any other interesting point of views by someone joining the team.
And that’s all I’ve got for now.

Rebloggable as requested.

This was just supposed to be Korra in a nice suit and then Korrasami happened. :P
Oh well…at least I got to practice more on an animation-like style when I was supposed to do school work.
