Doctor Who 07x02 reactions under the cut.
You know, on the one hand I love these montages, and on the other hand I feel like we get them all the time.
Tonal difference between Moffat and Davies: Under both, the Doctor goes through a lot of things and feels a lot of angst and makes some questionable choices - but Davies Who took the position that the Doctor was wrong and made him experience the consequences more often. I know people complained about it getting angsty, but Eleven’s suffering seems way less critical and more glorified. This doesn’t have anything to do with what’s on screen, really. Just a thought.

We’re getting development for Rory’s family, but not Amy’s? That’s predictably Moffat. Could still be pretty good, though.
Rory seems to have gotten his mellow non-reaction-ness from his father. His Dad is seriously not bothered at all.

I wonder if Rory’s father will die by the end of this. At this point I just expect bad things to happen to the Ponds always.

What’s with all the misogobags on this show thinking women are up for sale? I mean, this guy is a villain and committed genocide, so it’s not like it’s a surprise, but still.

Okay, that whole little convo between Neffy and The Doctor was actually kind of perfect, “It’s not your choice it’s mine” “You saved my people, I am in your debt.” “No, no. You don’t owe me anything.” - like, that is perfect. She asserts her autonomy, he reinforces the idea that you do good things because you want to and not because you want something in return. It was good. That was a good noble little convo.
Ahhhhhh, was that a rape threat? Gross.
Why do I feel like Rory’s become the main companion? He’s the one with the family member along and the ideas and the whole “What’s the plan?” and the nurse kit. It’s not a bad thing, I just don’t understand why we aren’t also getting this for Amy? Season’s not over yet, I guess. It could still happen.
The Doctor couldn’t think of Rory and Brian himself? Also, I feel like this character development would mean more if we’d met Brian before and had more of an idea of his and Rory’s relationship prior to this. This just feels kind of… forced in?
What kind of set-up is “needs two family members” for a space ship, anyway? Like why would it ever have been designed that way? Oh well, I don’t really care. This show is silly and ridiculous.
I don’t understand this military defense. Like, if the ship is a confirmed non-threat, then whyyyyyy?
I like how upon being unplugged the robots immediately go into a Space Odyssey reference.

Given all the few-months-here, couple-years-there breaks Amy and the Ponds have had, how much time has actually passed for them? This is way more than the one lost year continuity slip of Davies Who. When are they? They keep going home all of the time! They have to be at least a few years into our future at this point, right?
I feel like that episode didn’t really move things forward at all, but was fun? I liked it more than last week’s, at least. And Arthur Weasley was in it, so that was nice.
